“Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth” –Shirley Chisholm
Hi! I’m David. Raised in Stone Mountain and then Sandy Springs, I attended Sandy Springs Middle School and North Springs High School before heading to Georgia Tech to earn my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. My love of the City in the Trees led me to Dunwoody, where I met my wife and we started our family. Now living in Meadowlake with our three boys, our days are entrenched in Vanderlyn Elementary, Peachtree Middle, and lots of youth baseball. We are truly living life to the fullest in the ‘Wood!
My lifelong history of service to others and the community is a catalyst for my candidacy. At a young age, themes of empathy, connection, communication and curiosity were instilled in me through acts of service. From volunteering as a child with my late mom at Special Olympics Georgia, to leading radio communications for the Peachtree Road Race for 15 years (starting at age 21!), to volunteering at Lemonade Days with Dunwoody Preservation Trust, and being a fixture in our childrens’ schools and baseball teams, I strongly believe that we become better people when we serve our communities.
In the City of Dunwoody, I have served on the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals since 2019. In 2023, my wife and I were the first to donate to the Dunwoody Police Foundation through the Georgia Qualified Law Enforcement Donation Credit program. I previously graduated from Dunwoody Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy in 2012 and as a Ride-Along participant, was able to see a few of the situations our police officers face on a daily basis.
Friends and family describe me as even keeled, calm, and dependable in all situations. From collaborating with Atlanta government officials on 9/11 to ensure communication resiliency, to handling dynamic incidents involving care for medical and other situations at the Peachtree Road Race, to even filling in as ground command for a safe landing of a Lifeflight helicopter – I am a counselor of calm.
Equally exciting and challenging is my professional career, which has taken me to several continents and provided opportunities to partner with inspiring startups. My work includes food manufacturing (ask me how ANYTHING is made!) as well as engineering, project management, and construction leadership across manufacturing. Most recently, I started a project advisory firm, operating right here in Dunwoody, helping owners plan for and execute industrial manufacturing projects successfully. Looking to advance my knowledge and capabilities, I earned a Master of Engineering in Engineering Management from the University of Louisville while balancing work and family. I believe that with balance, you can achieve great things while showing up for those who depend on you.
I’m excited to embark on this journey with each of you for the greater good of our beloved City of Dunwoody!
